Women for Women International Project Selected as Top 25 American Express Members Project
Washington, DC (PRWEB) September 23, 2008 -- Women for Women International's project, Help Women and Children Survivors of War Rebuild (http://www.womenforwomen.org/membersproject), was chosen as a Top 25 Members Project. The project was selected out of 1,190 submissions. The top 5 finalists will be announced on September 30 and will share in $2.5 Million dollars in grants from American Express.
Women for Women International's project provides women survivors of war the opportunity and tools to rebuild their lives and their families' lives, with job skills and business training, financial assistance, rights awarness training and access to loans and markets.
Zainab Salbi, Founder and CEO of Women for Women International, notes that "this means giving women survivors of war actual resources to help them meet their short term needs - food, water and access to basic services. It also means teaching these women vocational skills so they can get a job and stand on their own feet and teaching them about women's rights and women's roles in the economy, society, politics and health."
Salbi stressed "the impact women in our program have -- providing their families with food, water, housing and sending their children to school - boys and girls."
"This is something proven that we can do at Women for Women International." says Zainab Salbi.
The American Express Members Project encourages Card members to submit and vote on projects by September 29 to make a positive impact on the world. Voting will resume again among the Top 5 projects announced September 30. American Express will fund those five winning projects $2.5 Million; the winning project will receive $1.5 Million in funding, the 2nd place project will receive $500,000, the 3rd place project will receive $300,000 and the remaining two projects will receive $100,000 each.
Women for Women International, a nonprofit 501 (c) (3) organization, provides women survivors of war, civil strife and other conflicts with the tools and resources to move from crisis and poverty to stability and self-sufficiency, thereby promoting viable civil societies. Women for Women International is a Conrad N. Hilton Humanitarian Prize award winner.
